This pop-up event is for kids and adults ages 8 and up…all budding and expert artists and every level in between are welcome!  Poured or fluid painting is a simple technique that produces stunningly gorgeous results that are unique with every pour!  We’ll look at the varying viscosity of paint and several methods for how to use an artist’s medium to change that viscosity and create unique cell patterns with non-traditional materials and techniques.  Armed with new insight into the chemistry of poured painting, artists will use a combination of pouring, tilting, blending, torching, and other unexpected methods to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art.

Artists will learn about a variety of techniques and can choose which method(s) they want to use for their own pieces.  You can make three complimentary pieces using different techniques or you might choose to stick to one method and make a triptych.   Either way, the beauty of fluid painting is that no two pieces ever look alike!

Registration includes three 12×16 canvases and all paint and pouring medium supplies.  If you wish to bring a guest to work collaboratively on 3 shared paintings, they are welcome to join you as an apprentice for only $10.

Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  (The accompanying adult may also register to create their own paintings or may attend at no charge if only serving as the young artist’s assistant.)

Note: Acrylic paint works the best for this method of art, but be aware that it is NOT WASHABLE.  We will provide aprons and gloves, but just in case, we recommend wearing clothing that won’t leave you heartbroken if it is accidentally painted.

Poured paintings must be left untouched and level for several days while they dry.  You are welcome to leave them at the Collaboratory and arrange a time that is convenient for you to stop by to pick them up.
